Good Luck!!

As this year comes to a close I would just like to say that it was a pleasure working with my fellow e-board was well as all the general body members, and anyone you was involved with the fashion show. We had a great year and I will remember all of it! I want to wish to new e-board the best of luck next year with all their programs and the fashion show. I plan on returning to watch! In the past four years we have worked very hard on building up the fashion club's members and reputation on the campus of St. John's. I hope that the club and members continue to grow and reach all their goals. Best of luck!!

FASHION...A Talent...An Interest...A Passion.

GET GLAMOUROUS!!!

As a side note to the fashion club, I wanted to show off my talents as a makeup artist. Fashion includes makeup too and I have always had a strong interest in both. This year I decided to take a course and receive my certification in basic makeup, and event makeup. The classes were so much fun and I learned a lot. I hope to pursue the beauty industry further in the future at the corporate level, as well as building up a clientele as a freelance makeup artist. The Element was a SUCCESS!!!

The Element Fashion Show was a SUCCESS!! After all the hard work and planning, the show turned out great! It was extremely rewarding to see the final production when it started off as just an idea on paper. I'm sure I speak for all the executive board and general body members, who will be graduating this year, that we couldn't have asked for a better show to end our experience with the St. John's Fashion Club. I wish next year's new executive board the best of luck with next year's fashion show and another successful and fashionable year of the STJ FASHION CLUB.

Makeup Tutorial

Many members of the fashion club and students attending St. John's University are interested in makeup, whether they want to learn tips for themselves, or persue a career in the beauty intusdry. So, the Fashion Club decided to host a makeup tutorial. We had one of our members, Lourdes, who worked at Giella Makeup, teach the girls about basic makeup, different looks, products, and helpful tips. After Lourdes showed everyone some looks and some tips, she answered questions that the members had about makeup and products, and everyone shared websites, products, and brands they like with the group.

Model Callbacks

This past weekend we invited the designers for the fashion show to our campus to see the models we chose for the call backs. Three of them were able to make it and they chose which models they would like to walk for their scene and wear pieces from their clothing line. The designers that attended the model call backs were Duroseau and ImaniLia, who both design evening gowns, and Raun LaRose, who designs men's wear. Here are some looks from each of their collections...

General Body Meeting

The Fashion Club met this past Wednesday, March 2nd, for our last general body meeting before spring break. Since executive board elections are approaching in a few weeks, we discussed executive board positions for the organization and the responsibilities of each position. Members who are interested in running for an executive board position for next semester will have to give a speech explaining why they think they are the right candidate for the position. Since most of the current executive board members are graduating seniors, all positions will be up for grabs, including president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary.

At the meeting, we also talked about the red carpet fashion at the Academy awards. Here are some of the celebrities we thought were best-dressed...

Mila Kunis

Hailee Steinfeld

Mandy Moore

Finally, we took a look at some spring fashion looks for the upcoming season. Here's what's hot for Spring 2011...

Lace

 Florals, Stripes, Bangles

 Cat-Eye Sunglasses

Fashion Show Casting Call

As the planning and preparing of the annual fashion show continues, the STJ Fashion Club begins their model search. The first casting was held on Tuesday, February 22nd in the donovan community room, where about 50 students came to audition for the show. We will be hosting a second casting call after spring break on March 14th from 3pm-6:30pm in the UC Commons. After both the castings, we will hold a call back where the show's designers will be present to give their input on the models and choose who they want to model their clothing line. We encourage anyone who is interested to come tryout or to get involved in the show anyway possible for a chance to gain hands-on experience with fashion show production.

Fashion Through The Decades

On Thursday, February 17th, the STJ Fashion Club hosted "Fashion Through The Decades," an event in honor of Black History Month. The club prepared a slide show that highlighted Black fashion icons, ranging from the 1920's up until the present. Held in the D'Angelo Center's Organization Lounge, there was lounge-style seating and "mocktails" were served to the members and attendees. After the slide show was presented, the members had a discussion about black fashion icons, black fashion influences, and how they are reflected in current fashions that we see today. We were glad we were able to celebrate Black History Month in a way that reflects both our interests and our history, as well as, the past and present.

Show Me Your Walk

On Tuesday, February 8th, the STJ Fashion Club hosted their first event of the semester. This modeling workshop, "Show Me Your Walk", was organized to teach students techniques used on fashion show runways, focusing on walking, posing and style. The event was run by three students that have been in the Fashion Club and Fashion Shows for the past four years. We spread the word of the event asking anyone who's interested in trying out for this semester's fashion show to come, to increase their chances of making the cut. The event had a good turn out and the students seemed to benefit from the pointers and tips given to them. We hope they had fun and were able to improve, so at tryouts they can work the runway when we ask, Show me your walk...

A Passion . . . A Talent . . . An Interest . . .

The St. John's University Fashion Club has been around for about 5 years now and I have been on the executive board for 4. I first joined the club during my freashman year at St. John's and at the time the board was looking for new e-board members. So, I decided to join the board and 4 years later, I am Vice President. Being part of the club has been an extra-curricular activity I really enjoy. The club offers members a chance to embrace all aspects of fashion and the fashion industry with other students who share this interest. Although St. John's University does not offer any fashion majors, there are many students who wish to persue a career in the fashion industry. While these students are recieving academic knowledge, in majors that include Public Relations, Business, Journalism and more, we try to provide them with experience, information, and networking opportunites dealing with fashion and the fashion industry.

As the Spring semester begins, the Fashion Club prepares for a new semester. After showcasing the club at the St. John's Univeristy Spring Semester Activities Fair, we recruited new members to join us at our first general body meeting to learn more about the club. Our first meeting had to be postponed due to the weather, but will be taking place tomorrow, February 3rd, on campus. At the meeting we will discuss the purpose and benefits of being a member, our upcoming events for the semester, and of course, the Fashion Show. We also encourage feedback from the members and want to hear what they would like to get out of the club. That way, we can focus on planning events and activites on their interests and likes.

We look forward to a successful and exciting semester!
